Fall is possibly the best time to visit the Bay Area. With an annual “Indian Summer” usually arriving during the month of October and keeping the temperatures in San Francisco at their warmest, both Marin County and the city enjoy clear skies and low humidity, with average temperatures ranging between 50F to 75F in October. The most important thing to remember when packing is to dress in layers, as you will likely experience warm days followed by cool nights.

The Mill Valley Film Festival takes place approximately 15 minutes North of San Francisco in downtown Mill Valley as well as in San Rafael. While you will find many dining and entertainment options within walking distance once you arrive at each festival venue, you may want to consider renting a car (links) if you wish to explore the surrounding areas (such as San Francisco, Muir Woods, and Napa Valley).  Taxis are available between Mill Valley and San Rafael for approximately $25 each way.  Please check our festival maps to get a better sense of where all festival venues are located.

If you would like to plan a trip either by bus or ferry, visit Golden Gate Transit's website for more info.
