The 2012 MVFF Slotting Board...

Our goal each year is to create

A festival program with weight,

And here on this wall

You’re privy to all

The final films with time and date.

For weeks now the staff has been plotting

This delicate work known as slotting--

Each detail we gloss

Each T we must cross

And every last I that needs dotting.

The challenges can be complex

In a wide array of respects:

Our heavy reliance

On format compliance

To match every theater’s specs. 

We book honorees to embrace,

Then finding each party a space,

With sponsors on board,

Studios in accord,

The last pieces fall into place.

And then as filmmakers approve

Each necessary swap and move--

Voila!  As a whole

This schedule has soul

With balance and just the right groove.

But you, the patrons, add that rare

Dimension of joy and of flair.

So please don’t forget

To join this film fete,

Our 35^th Anniversaire.

There’s no doubt that film festivals run on the inexhaustible energy of the staff, the generous commitment of sponsors, and the remarkable loyalty and dedication of faithful patrons. And for this upcoming 35th anniversary of the Mill Valley Film Festival, that is especially true.
