BE A HERO BEHIND THE SCENES: VOLUNTEER!
Welcome to the 38th Mill Valley Film Festival! Every October more than 500 dedicated volunteers join in our efforts to celebrate and promote film as art and education. We showcase over 200 independent and international films and events in one of the most beautiful parts in the Bay Area.
Why volunteer at MVFF? Because eleven days of film, music, panels, and great conversation in a beautiful setting inspires you, and because you want to do your part in sharing these beautiful stories and experiences with the world.
Ready to get involved? We are looking for reliable, hard working, positive team members who can volunteer for at least two 4-hour shifts.
TO VOLUNTEER AT MVFF:
- You must be at least 18 years old
- You must commit to two 4-hour shifts, either pre-festival or during the festival
- Attend one of our volunteer orientations (approx. 1 hour)
- Complete the MVFF volunteer training in September (approx. 1-2 hours per position)
- We do not provide accommodations or transportation for volunteers

THEATER AND VENUE OPERATIONS
Looking for experienced volunteers to act as ushers, ticket takers, line managers, mic runners, ballot distribution and collection, Q&A set-up/staging, and more. These are critical roles, and MVFF biggest need.
Reliable and friendly volunteers with a clean motor vehicle report and a presentable car to drive festival guests to and from screenings, airports, and events.
Volunteers will assist with special event and theater reserved parking.
GUEST / FILMMAKER SERVICES
Looking for experienced volunteers to provide guest and filmmaker check in and act as on site liaisons between filmmakers, theater staff and programmers. Volunteers will also help deliver guest and filmmaker welcome bags.
Looking for upbeat and punctual volunteers help with food and beverage service, event set-up and break-down (must be able to lift 25lbs), registration/check-in, clean-up (late shifts). Must be 21 or older, able to problem solve, stay on task, and be willing to get your hands dirty. Select volunteer openings available for VIP, sponsor, supply pick-up, and filmmaker concierge service at events.
Looking for friendly, hard working volunteers to assist with badge scanning at the door, food and beverage service, venue set up, sponsor activations, venue clean up, and provide information and directions to lounge guests. One location in San Rafael and one in Mill Valley.
Looking for volunteers to facilitate ticket and badge pick-up at box office will call.
Looking for friendly volunteers with local knowledge, and trained festival knowledge assist patrons in answering all types of festival related questions.
Looking for hard-working volunteers who assist with set-up, food and beverage service, break-down, programming staff assistance, and panelist support.
MARKETING / PUBLICITY
Looking for detail-oriented volunteers to help with: schedule and poster distribution, ticket distribution, niche marketing / outreach to local community partners, press / media support, press conference support, press kit creation and distribution, web work / content management, and help with digital media projects.
Looking for detail-oriented volunteers help with: sponsor check-in and concierge assistance, sponsor activations within Festival venues, sponsorship mailers, sponsor reserved seating in theaters, various sponsorship needs at events, and more.
Looking for volunteers to help with many pre-festival projects such as badges, reserved seat signs, event signage, venue supply kits, data entry, audience award ballots, various mailers, and staff meeting support with food and beverage set-up and breakdown.
PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY
Looking for skilled volunteers to help with photography/videography at film intros and q&a’s, red carpet arrivals, special events, filmmaker outings, panels, general screenings, sponsor activations, etc. Must have own camera equipment. Must be able to take direction and work quickly, efficiently, and to deliver media immediately following event. CLICK HERE for more info.
Volunteers help with panel set-up, interpreters, filmmaker outings, programmer transportation, and special screening needs.
Energetic and strong volunteers assist with transporting various festival goods, supplies and equipment between various venues. Volunteers will assist with red carpet and step and repeat set-up / breakdown, barricade and line signage.

VOLUNTEER CODE OF CONDUCT:
You are an ambassador and the face of Mill Valley Film Festival to both patrons and to the public at large. As a volunteer you are expected to:
Treat all patrons, visitors, artists, staff and fellow volunteers with respect and courtesy
Conduct yourself in a friendly and professional manner
Do not consume alcohol or drugs while on a shift and do not report for duty while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Show up on time and dress appropriately for your shift
Contact the Volunteer Department immediately when you need to cancel a shift
Work through your entire shift
Keep all information you handle confidential
