OUR BROTHERS (NOS FRANGINS)

DIRECTOR: RACHID BOUCHAREB

SPECIAL GUEST: actor Samir Guesmi, representing director Rachid Bouchareb

Police will stop at nothing to hide their misconduct in this look back with anger at the murders of Abdel Benyahia and Malik Oussekine in 1986 Paris. French director Rachid Bouchareb (Days of Glory, MVFF29) infuses this true story with the solemn air of a procedural, delivering a drama of cleansing fury.

 In French with English subtitles

Rachid Bouchareb worked as an assistant director for Société française de production, France’s state television production company, from 1977 until 1984 before making his transition into feature filmmaking. He made his debut in 1985 with Baton Rouge, winner of the Golden Unicorn for Best Film at the Amiens International Film Festival. THE WONDER

DIRECTOR: SEBASTIÁN LELIO

SPECIAL GUEST: SEBÁSTIAN LELIO

Florence Pugh (Little Women) is pitch-perfect as an English nurse in 19th-century Ireland engaged to watch over an Irish “fasting girl” claiming to subsist solely on “manna from above.” Beset by her own demons, the nurse’s fate becomes tied to that of the girl, whose potential saintliness is valued far over her own life.

Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Lelio made his narrative feature debut with The Sacred Family (2005), winning numerous film festival awards. Among his other films are Gloria (2013), winner of two Berlin International Film Festival Awards and a Film Independent Spirit Award for Best International Film; A Fantastic Woman (MVFF40), an Oscar® nominee for Best Foreign Language Film and recipient of three Berlin International Film Festival Awards; and Disobedience (2017).
